Jack and Dad Day Spin Fishing for Trout

We set out on the river to spend three or four hours and maybe catch a couple of trout. On his second cast, he caught his first trout. Then another and another. It was going to be one of those days.

We lost hooks on two veltic blade spinners. For the amount of money they cost in the shop (about $12 each), you would think they could design them better. Give me a Mepp's any day. We moved on to a spoon spinner with a single hook and it never failed us.

Jack had a few bad habits to correct. Why kids think they need to pump the rod when fighting a fish is beyond me. I sorted him on that one and helped him work on a side arm cast. Then I showed him how to wiggle a lure out of a tree which he did later in the day and caught a beauty because of his new skill. We were there for fun but the teaching part can be pretty serious for me.

We wound up on the water for five hours which is just long enough for an eleven-year-old boy. It was a quality day.

I think the video says it all so have a watch and enjoy.
